Kildare

About This Route

County Kildare is the heart of Irish horse racing - lush pastures, world-class studs, and a culture where horses are royalty. This route explores the landscape that has bred champions for generations.

Why This Route?

Kildare is Ireland's equestrian capital:

  • Irish National Stud - World-class breeding facility with gardens
  • The Curragh - Ireland's oldest racecourse
  • Stud farms - Rolling pastures of champion thoroughbreds
  • Racing heritage - Centuries of flat racing tradition
  • Japanese Gardens - Unexpected horticultural treasure

Japanese Gardens

Ireland's finest oriental gardens, created 1906-1910:

  • "Journey of life" symbolism

St Fiachra's Garden

A more recent addition celebrating Ireland's patron saint of gardening.

Kildare Town

Historic town with:

The Curragh

Another famous racecourse, known for the April Festival.

Naas

Racing

Book in advance for major meetings. Regular meetings are good value entertainment.

  • Gateway to Eternity

Best times:
